I guess I should have mentioned, I have no plans to load X support. The
display is a black and white LCD with max resolution of 640x480 (standard
VGA). I do have a working Xconfig file, but why bother? The plan is to
have this machine move data, not work as a client.
Also, I do have a drive loaded with a real basic RedHat 5.2 load that does
work (even has X support), but I haven't tried getting AX.25 working on it
yet (when did the kernel support of AX.25 start?). I also don't know if
TNOS or any of the other front ends will running under RH 5.2.

I wouldn't try Mandrake on a 486. The performance of this graphical
interface is terrible. Just to open a simple text editor took 20
seconds. Opening Netscape took over 1 minute. Bringing up a menu
from the main display took 20 seconds or more. The box was a
486DX-100 with 48 MB of RAM, and a 1.2G hard drive.
As a simple non-graphical OS, it worked just fine, but then it
reminded me of the olden days of DOS.
